History of the Institute
The Neptune Prime Institute of Journalism was established in 2026 through the vision of veteran journalist, Dr Hassan Gimba Ahmed, ANIPR, Editor-in-Chief and CEO of Neptune Prime, one of the most widely read online newspapers in Nigeria, particularly Northern Nigeria.
Driven by Dr Gimba’s passion for promoting ethical journalism, the institute is committed to raising professional standards in the Nigerian media, prioritising accurate news dissemination, and fostering responsible journalistic practice.
The institute derives its name, founding philosophy, and operational framework from Neptune Prime, whose editorial DNA—encapsulated in the acronym News, Entertainment, People and Politics, Tradition, and Unity of the North East to shape its academic vision and professional identity.
The Neptune Prime Institute of Journalism, as a teaching and training institution aims to uphold professional standards and ethical journalism practices in Nigeria and across Africa by providing in-depth training to combat fake news, misinformation, and biased reporting.
